Downtown Greenville got its first raw bar when this spot opened inside ONE City Plaza, and the gleaming ice bar up front is still the first thing that pulls people in. Expert shuckers work an ever-changing lineup of oysters you can mix and match into your own platter, plus littleneck clams, king crab legs, and a chef's crudo that changes by the day. It reaches well past the raw bar. Under chef Dom Angelo, the kitchen turns out seared tuna that regulars rave about, along with scallops, sea bass, and small plates, with steak on hand for whoever at the table didn't come for fish. The cocktails are built with real care, and the wine list runs deep enough that the happy hour pours have earned a following of their own. The room reads sharp and modern, easing from an early dinner crowd into a louder, later energy as the night runs on. It comes from the local team behind The 05, The 07, and The One5, and guests keep naming their servers in reviews, the attentive, knows-the-menu kind of hospitality that turns a first visit into a standing reservation. Since that crudo is never quite the same twice, half the fun is seeing what the shuckers have working the night you go.

Finding it is half the fun. This one doesn't front onto Main Street the way the address suggests; it sits tucked inside One City Plaza, around the courtyard past the neighboring storefronts, which is why first-timers sometimes circle the block before they spot the door. Inside is aged exposed brick, work by a local artist on the walls, and a kitchen that has been cooking nostalgic Southern food downtown since 1999. The menu reads American with a deep Southern accent: fresh seafood, steaks, big salads, and a full bar pouring local beers on tap alongside a wine list that runs long by the glass or the bottle. Regulars tend to open with the blue crab and pepper-jack nachos or the fried green tomatoes, then move to plates like shrimp and grits, pecan trout, or a filet finished with house-made pimento cheese. Vegetarian and gluten-free swaps are there if you ask. Across more than twenty-five years it has become one of downtown's steady rooms for anniversaries and unhurried date nights, and the reviews keep returning to two things: the cooking and a service team that regulars name by first name. The chef's specials rotate often enough that the regulars have learned to ask what's on the board before ordering. One practical note: the Richardson Street garage a few steps away parks free on weekends.

The Black Sheep

Fine Dining

The Black Sheep is chef Danielle Grigorian's first restaurant, and it landed on North Main in the old Two Chefs space. Before this, she ran the kitchen at Jianna downtown, so she came in already knowing the Greenville dining scene. Now she's cooking the food she wants to cook. The menu is Mediterranean, but not the version you usually see around here. It leans into Armenian cooking, then rotates through a few other Mediterranean countries each season. That means the menu changes through the year, so a dish you loved might be gone by your next visit, and something new takes its place. A few plates come up again and again from people who've been: the lamb kibbeh and the wagyu kebab. The cocktails get the same care, mixed by bartenders who clearly take the craft seriously. In a city with plenty of good places to eat, The Black Sheep has earned a reputation as one of the few that reaches for true fine dining, the kind of meal you plan a night around. People notice the details, from the room to the way the table is set. What a page like this can't tell you is the story behind the name and the four countries on the menu. That part is hers to tell.
