Empower Spine & Body is built around the Gonstead technique, where every adjustment is specific and done by hand. Husband-and-wife chiropractors Drs. Zach and Megan Ayala, both graduates of Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, opened the independent Piedmont practice in 2021, and each has put in more than 200 hours of extra Gonstead training.
Dr. Megan, Sherman's 2020 valedictorian, is ICPA certified in the Webster technique and also holds a functional medicine certification, and the practice offers a style of care it describes as gentle for pregnant moms and kids. The office also offers spinal and knee decompression and focused shockwave therapy. A first visit runs about an hour: a one-on-one health history, an exam, digital X-rays in the office when needed, and a plain-language walk through the findings before the first adjustment.
